Preventing download from Java viewer

Post by xspecs » Thu May 03, 2012 11:59 am

Hi

Question regarding the Java based web viewer. I like it and find that it is a good way of giving people access to view studies. However I dont necessarily want to give them the ability to save the images - is there someway I can manually turn off the download/save option ?

thanks

Andrew

Andrew,

I talked to the developers and it is theoretically possible to turn this off. The issue would be selectively turning it off for certain groups such as yours, would have to check on how much time it would take to implement that. The one thing to bear in mind though is that even if it were turned off, it would be theoretically possible for someone with sufficient computer skills to recover the DICOM data as it is downloaded to the computer and cached on disk while the study is being viewed. Would require some hacking skills but the data would be theoretically recoverable if someone really wanted to do it. So, one thing to think about is how important is this, and would it be sufficient to just prevent the large majority of users from downloading the data while understanding that a hacker type user could theoretically get the data. Also could this issue be solved with anonymizing the cases? We can follow up on our end with possible solutions with this info. thanks
