Using JAVA viewer

Post by hilario » Tue Aug 24, 2010 7:36 am

Hello, I am not very "clear" about the Java viewer usage.
To open it I click on the option "view with java viewer". Then I get the stuyd loaded on the Java viewer.
Now I want to see another one, the I click on the same option and then every-time it reload the software. Is there any option to avoid the reload phase as the plugin should be on the system?
It is probably a internet navigator or java issue, but sure you know the solution.
Regards

Are you saying it downloads the Java viewer software again each time you want to view a study?

It does load the study each time you click on this option, as there is no pre-fetching with this viewer. So, you will see it download the image data for the study you wish to view each time you launch the viewer.

However, it shouldn't be loading the java viewer software each time, it should download it only once, and only download it again for updates.

Can you clarify which of these is occurring?

Firefox 3.6.8
Every time I select the option "view with java applet" it reload Javaviewer.jnlp and execute again.
Also I tried to use the cache config to avoid to have to reload the study (*.Zip) file but it doens't seam to work.
regards

By the way, it surprise me how long it takes to install the CDwriter Plugin. I tried in three machines and it takes always the same time.

Hilario,

1) It sounds like you are saying it re-loads the study each time the java viewer is launched. This is normal. The applet viewer is not intended to be a general purpose viewer for large-volume radiology work. It's an option for viewing studies that may be attractive to people who don't want to, or can't (because of hospital security, etc.) install the full onepacs workstation package. For a referring orthopedic surgeon who just wants to occasionally look at a study, this may be a superior option to installing the full workstation.

When it downloads the .jnlp file, it's not downloading the full software package, it's just downloading instructions regarding how to view the study.

The pros/cons of the viewers are listed here:

2) The cd/dvd burning package takes time to download, but you only have to download it once per computer. It's a fantastic package.
