Deprecation Notice: Java dictation applet

Post by onepacs » Wed Feb 24, 2016 9:55 am

OnePacs Users,

The Java dictation applet feature, that allows for manual transcription workflow, has been deprecated and will be removed from OnePacs in early 2017. This decision was made due to most major browsers removing support for the Java plugin, Oracle announcing that it will no longer be producing a Java plugin in the future, and because manual review of reports can be done more efficiently using new and existing functionality.
Google removed the technology needed for Java applets in September, and Microsoft's latest Windows 10 operating system shipped with its Edge browser six months ago without support for plugins like Java. Mozilla has announced plans to remove support for plugins like Silverlight and Java in Firefox by the end of the year. Oracle is now planning to deprecate the Java browser plugin in its JDK 9 release due in September.
For groups that prefer reports to be reviewed by another individual for minor errors or omissions prior to finalization, we recommend using the proofreading workflow in conjunction with OnePacs Voice Recognition and/or Report Generator.

Please let us know if you have any questions.
