Viewing Java viewer in Safari

On my Mac I am have been able to view cases in the Java viewer in Firefox but not Safari..I get a blank screen. Is that normal?

The Java viewer is launched via a "JNLP" file. In Safari on OS X the ability to automatically launch JNLP files is not permitted. Instead, you must click on the downloads icon and manually launch the JNLP download.
Firefox is the recommended browser for both Windows and Mac.
