I am about to purchase another ultrasound system and will attempt to send information via dicom directly to the gateway. I have never done this and previously uploaded images directly to the workstation, utilizing a thumb drive. Are there any tips anyone can give me for ensuring that this is done as smoothly as possible? How do i program the philips system to send the images directly to the gateway? Any information will be helpful.

While I am not sure of the specifics of how to configure your Philips system, I will say that this is pretty standard and either your vendor or user manual should be able to give you the information.

In a nutshell, you will want to add the Gateway as a DICOM destination to the Philips system. This is called different things in different products, examples are "DICOM Destinations", "DICOM Nodes", "AE Configuration", etc. The information you will add to Philips for the Gateway DICOM node usually includes the AE Title of the Gateway, the IP Address or host name of the Gateway computer, and the network port of the Gateway DICOM receiver. The default AE Title of the Gateway is GATEWAY (all caps), and the default port is 4104.

Once the Gateway AE information is added to the Philips system, it should be able to send images to the Gateway via DICOM. Again, I'm not sure of exactly how you would do this on that particular product, but it should be easy to find out from the vendor rep or user manual. Sometimes a modality will have an auto-forward feature which automatically forwards all images to a DICOM destination. If your modality does not have that feature or if it does and you don't want to make use of it, you will have to manually send the studies after they are acquired.

When the Gateway receives the studies, it will automatically and securely forward them to the OnePacs server where you may then access them.

One important note that I will add to Damien's post is that a static internal IP address should be configured for the OnePacs Gateway. This can typically be done via your router and is often call a DHCP reservation. You would need to consult your router manual to verify how to set a static IP address. This is important so that the IP address of the Gateway computer would not change. If the IP address of the Gateway computer would change, you would likely need to reconfigure your modality configuration for the new IP address.
